About Cashmere

What is cashmere, and why is it considered a luxury material?

Cashmere is a natural fiber obtained from the soft undercoat of cashmere goats, primarily found in high-altitude regions like Mongolia. Unlike regular wool, cashmere is incredibly soft, lightweight, and up to three times warmer than sheep’s wool. Its rarity—it takes the fiber from 3–5 goats to make a single scarf—combined with its exceptional quality, makes it a highly sought-after luxury material.

How is cashmere different from wool or other natural fibers?

Cashmere is finer, softer, and more insulating than most other types of wool. While wool can feel coarse, cashmere is known for its silky texture and lightweight warmth. It is also naturally breathable, hypoallergenic, and durable, making it perfect for long-lasting, comfortable scarves and shawls.

Why is cashmere more expensive than other materials?

The price of cashmere reflects its rarity and labor-intensive production process. Cashmere goats produce only a small amount of usable fiber each year, and it must be carefully hand-combed and processed. Additionally, our scarves and shawls are handcrafted by skilled artisans in Nepal, preserving a centuries-old tradition of weaving. This combination of premium material and meticulous craftsmanship ensures that each piece is truly special and built to last.

Care & Maintenance

How long will my cashmere scarf or shawl last?

With proper care, cashmere is incredibly durable and can last for many years—often a decade or more. Our products are designed to be timeless, versatile, and cherished for a lifetime. Proper storage, gentle washing, and occasional de-pilling will help maintain your cashmere’s softness and beauty over time.

How do I maintain, de-pill and store my handmade cashmere?

Your handmade cashmere is a work of art, crafted with care and tradition.

Avoid Frequent Washing: Cashmere naturally repels odors and dirt, meaning it doesn’t need frequent washing. Spot clean minor stains or simply air out the piece to refresh it between uses.

If you must wash, hand-washing is the best and most gentle. Dry-clean is another option but it is generally not recommended. Please see the instructions for hand-washing and/or dry-clean on this FAQ page.

Prevent Pilling: Over time, pilling may occur, especially in high-friction areas. Use a cashmere comb or fabric shaver to gently remove any pills and keep your piece looking its best.

Store with Care: Fold your cashmere and store it in a breathable cotton bag with natural moth repellents like cedar or lavender. Avoid hanging, as it can stretch the fabric.

How do I hand-wash my cashmere?

Proper care is essential to maintain the beauty and longevity of handmade felted cashmere. Follow these expert recommendations to gently clean your piece without compromising its quality:

Step 1: Use Cold Water and Gentle Detergent

Fill a clean basin or sink with cold water.

Add a few drops of a mild detergent specifically designed for delicate fabrics, such as cashmere, wool, or baby clothes. Avoid harsh detergents, bleach, or fabric softeners, which can damage the fibers.

Step 2: Handwash Gently

Submerge your felted cashmere piece in the water.

Gently soak it for a5-10 minutes to allow the detergent to lift dirt and oils. Avoid swirling, scrubbing, wringing, or twisting, as this can distort the shape or texture of the fabric.

Step 3: Rinse Thoroughly

Drain the soapy water and refill the basin with fresh, cold water.

Gently press water through the fabric to remove all detergent. Repeat this step until the water runs clear.

Step 4: Remove Excess Water

Lay the piece flat on a clean, dry towel.

Roll up the towel with the cashmere inside, gently pressing to absorb excess water. Never wring or twist the fabric, as this can cause stretching or damage.

Step 5: Reshape and Air Dry

Lay the cashmere flat on a dry towel or a breathable drying rack, reshaping it to its original proportions.

Allow it to air dry in a cool, shaded area, away from direct sunlight or heat sources (such as radiators or dryers), which can shrink or weaken the fibers.

How do I dry-clean my cashmere?

While handwashing is often the best way to clean felted cashmere, dry cleaning can be another option but generally not recommended.

When to Dry Clean:

If your cashmere piece has significant stains or dirt that cannot be removed by handwashing.

If the item is labeled “Dry Clean Only”.

If you prefer professional cleaning for convenience or peace of mind.

Choosing the Right Dry Cleaner:

Not all dry cleaners specialize in cleaning delicate cashmere. Look for a professional cleaner with experience in handling luxury textiles and natural fibers. Ask if they use gentle, eco-friendly solvents, which are less harsh than traditional chemicals.

How Often Should I Dry Clean?

Dry cleaning should be done sparingly to preserve the natural softness and structure of your cashmere. Over-cleaning, even by professionals, can weaken the fibers over time. Aim to dry clean only once or twice a season, or as needed for deep cleaning.

Made-To-Order

How long does it take to hand-make and ship my scarf?

All our scarves are meticulously made-to-order by hand, ensuring the highest quality and craftsmanship. Production typically takes 2-3 weeks before they are shipped, depending on the design and order volume.

Once completed, below is the estimated time but it may vary depending on customs processing time for international shipping or other unforeseen circumstances:

Local delivery (within Hong Kong): 1-3 business days.

International shipping: 3-7 business days, depending on your location and customs clearance.

Why does production take longer for my order?

Our shawls and scarves are handcrafted with care by skilled artisans, and only a limited number can be made each day to ensure exceptional quality.

This dedication to craftsmanship means production takes a bit longer, but the result is a truly unique, luxury piece made just for you.
